The US lost the first big test of Gregg Berhalter's second cycle today. A few talking points, and lots of quotes from players on the ground in Connecticut

Well, if we were looking to launch this new cycle off with a compelling performance against a top opponent, then I suppose we were let down at Rentschler Field today.
The US lost to Germany by a gap of one goal to three.
It wasn’t without its high notes. It wasn’t without kernels of success, things to build on for the future. Though as against the Dutch, things unraveled rather quickly, inside the wrath of cascading mistakes.
The two halves told different stories: the first full of hope, the second complete deflation.
Two goals in quick succession at the start of the second and then there was no turning back the game.
If the overarching aim remains to eventually be able to win these types of games (and to win them not just by the skin of one’s teeth, but compellingly) then the silver lining of today is that the US played a tough opponent, they were in the game for some part of it, and now they have the opportunity to… learn.
