18 players isn’t very many names. But that’s the number called to represent the first US Olympic Men’s Soccer Team at the summer games since 2008.

Pause, reader, (if you like), to appreciate the feat of this return. 16 years have passed since Team USA fielded a men’s and a women’s soccer side simultaneously at the Olympic Football tournament.

Of course, the women won the gold (2012), the bronze (2020) and bowed out in the quarters (2016) since then. It’s the men who’ve been missing.
