Over the course of the past week, Gregg Berhalter made a series of Washington DC and Washington DC-adjacent appearances (Caps game, American Outlaws event, media roundtable, press conference) in order to announce a June USMNT friendly.
It seems ‘changing soccer in America forever’ starts with elaborate press events, headlined by Gregg Berhalter.
At a hotel in Bethesda, Md., the USA’s first pre-Copa friendly was unfurled via press conference, introduced to the world with all the gusto of an NFL announcer. Gregg Berhalter (who chided the announcer/host for stealing a number of his data points on DC’s soccer history), was joined by representatives from HBSE (Dylan Wanagiel) and the Washington Commanders (Trista Langdon), who are responsible for this capital city return.
With much ado, they announced a Colombia friendly.
On June 8, the US Men’s National Team returns to the nation’s capital (or technically Maryland) for the first time since 2019, and to FedExField for the first time since 2012, in order to play Colombia ahead of the Copa América.
Separately, Washington Post’s longtime soccer guy, Steven Goff, reported they’ll also play Brazil, venue “tba”, four days later on June 12.
