Duncan McGuire’s fate suspended midair
Have you ever been on a long, long flight with a precarious future waiting on the other side? I have, actually. It’s torture.
There you are, confined to a miraculous floating device hovering higher than the tip of Mount Everest. And down below on earthly soil your fate unfurls without you. News may trickle slowly toward you, should the WiFi work. But the full roll of your die reveals itself when you land and the world turns back on.
Such was the nature of Duncan McGuire’s day today. The 22-year-old from Omaha, Nebraska, boarded a flight to England in the hopes he might sign with Blackburn Rovers on the other side. As he floated, it collapsed. The 18th-placed Championship side scrambled the deal with Orlando City while Duncan was midair. According to The Athletic’s Tom Bogert, Blackburn’s board pulled out for financial reasons.
Alas.
